From the ice to industry, Bouchier champions Indigenous excellence as title sponsor of the Hockey Legends Gala
OKOTOKS, Alta. — The Western Canada Professional Hockey Scouts Foundation has partnered with
Bouchier, a Fort McKay–based firm, as title sponsor of an upcoming national gala.
Bouchier is a 100 per cent Indigenous-owned company delivering industrial services that support
energy operations and strengthen communities.
The Foundation will host Celebrating Indigenous Hockey Legends, presented by Bouchier, on Sept. 30
in Regina — Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.
“We are thrilled to partner with Bouchier on this important event,” said Mark Stiles, the
Foundation’s director of sponsorships and stakeholder relations. “Bouchier cares deeply about
Indigenous communities, and that’s exactly what this dinner is about. It also highlights the
progress our Foundation has made, both inside and outside the hockey world, in just two short
years.”
Based in Fort McKay, 63 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Bouchier employs nearly 1,400 people —
38% of whom self-identify as Indigenous — representing more than 90 Indigenous communities across
Canada. More than just a business, Bouchier is dedicated to connecting people and communities to
what matters most. The company has been widely recognized for its leadership in Indigenous economic
development, receiving numerous awards for business excellence, community impact, and advocacy.
“Hockey teaches discipline, teamwork, and resilience—qualities that shape leaders both on and off
the ice. By supporting the Indigenous Legends Gala, we celebrate the athletes who paved the way and
help open doors for the next generation to build strong futures, whether in sport, business, or
community leadership,” said Nicole Bourque- Bouchier, CEO and co-owner of Bouchier.
In July, the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business named Bouchier the inaugural recipient of its
2025 Indigenous Business of the Year Award. The award recognizes Indigenous businesses that enrich
the economic, social, and cultural well-being of Indigenous communities.
The Foundation hosted its second annual Wall of Honour induction dinner on July 29 in Okotoks,
where 30 past and present-day scouts were recognized before a sold-out crowd of more than 400. The
inaugural dinner the year before honoured 45 scouts.
The non-profit Foundation was formed to recognize NHL scouts from Western Canada who have made
outstanding contributions to their teams, communities, and the game of hockey. It is also committed
to giving back to charities, communities, and individuals in need.
Proceeds from the Regina gala will support three local charities: Ranch Ehrlo Society’s Outdoor
Hockey League, KidSport Saskatchewan, and Circle Project, each of which works with Indigenous youth.
The evening will feature a tribute to the late Fred Sasakamoose and two hot stove panels with Bryan
Trottier, Kalley Armstrong, Ron Delorme, Brent Dodginghorse, brothers D.J. and Dwight King, Jon
Mirasty, Rich Pilon, Jordin Tootoo, and Dave “Tiger” Williams.
Tickets — singles and tables of eight — are available at hockeyscoutsfoundation.com.
