Laurence Ferguson

(Nov. 26, 1929 — Feb. 27, 2022)

Born in Eckville, Alta., he grew up in the Gilby/Eckville area of Alberta. . . . Lived most of his adult life in Red Deer where, at various times, he was, among other things, a city councillor, president of the minor hockey association, and co-founder of the local bridge club. . . . Was a longtime minor baseball and minor hockey coach. . . . For a time he also drove the bus for the midget Optimist Chiefs hockey team. . . . At one time, he was co-owner and manager of the AJHL’s Red Deer Rustlers. . . . Spent 15 years as a scout with NHL Central Scouting and seven years with the Carolina Hurricanes. . . . Was especially proud of working with sons Ron and Sheldon with the Hurricanes. . . . Laurence and his wife, Marg, were married for 70 years.
