Jack McIlhargey

(March 7, 1952 — July 19, 2020)

A native of Edmonton, he played minor hockey in Burnaby, B.C. . . . Played two seasons in the WCHL (Victoria Cougars, Flin Flon Bombers, 1971-73) before going on to a pro career (1974-82) that included 393 regular-season NHL games split between the Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers and Hartford Whalers. . . . Turned to coaching and spent 20 years in Vancouver’s organization, working as an assistant coach with the Canucks or as head coach of affiliate clubs. . . . Went to Russia in 1988 with G Troy Gamble on exchange program that helped get Igor larionov and Vladimir Krutov to sign with Canucks. . . . Moved to Flyers as assistant coach in 2007, then joined their amateur scouting staff in 2011. . . . A member of the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame (2011) and the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame (2004). . . . He called Burnaby home.
