Garth Malarchuk

(July 22, 1954 —)

Born in Edmonton, he took a run at coaching before turning to scouting. . . . Was head coach of U18 AAA Calgary Buffaloes for six seasons and AJHL’s Calgary Royals for one (1990-91). . . . Spent the next seven seasons as an amateur scout with the Toronto Maple Leafs before turning to coaching again, this time for one season-plus with the Kelowna Rockets. . . . Returned to Toronto as an amateur scout in 2000 and continues in that role. . . . A goaltender, he ended his pro career after bouncing around the AHL and IHL for two seasons (1974-76). . . . Former member of the Calgary Police Service. . . . Had WHL’s best GAA (3.06) with the Calgary Centennials in 1973-74 and was added to the Regina Pats’ roster for the 1974 Memorial Cup. The Pats won it, but he didn’t see any action.
