The Professional Hockey Scouts Foundation is proud to announce the launch of its SCOUTS Program, an initiative dedicated to supporting the development of young people both in athletics and in life.

The non-profit foundation, which is in its third year of existence, has made the program a priority.  SCOUTS is an acronym for: Strength, Confidence, Opportunity, Understanding, Teamwork and Sportsmanship.

The aim is to reduce barriers to participation in sports. It will provide assistance with registration fees, equipment costs, educational support and other participation-related needs, helping to ensure that young people get the opportunity to grow physically, socially and emotionally.

According to the program’s Mission Statement: “SCOUTS exists to turn potential into confidence and participation into leadership by building stronger youth, stronger teams and stronger communities.”

Interested youths, parents/guardians, coaches, schools or community organizations are able to submit applications that will include such things as age and community affiliation, sport(s) of interest, present participation level, and a description of financial, social, or accessibility barriers.

Those interested also will be asked to supply a personal statement outlining goals and interests.

Applications will be accepted on a year-round basis. Beginning September 1 2026, all applications will be reviewed by the SCOUTS Committee to ensure they align with the program’s objectives and eligibility criteria.

Applications will be evaluated based on several factors, including demonstrated need, commitment to participation, and the applicant’s interest in sport and personal development. Successful applicants will be matched with appropriate program opportunities, and participants and families will attend an orientation session, either virtually or in-person.

Upon completion, participants may be invited to serve as peer mentors, assist with future program events and/or continue involvement through the SCOUTS Alumni Network.
