Sheldon Ferguson

(Oct. 8, 1952 —)

Born in Eckville, Alta., and raised in Red Deer, where he played his minor hockey. . . . Had been with the Hartford Whalers for two seasons when they became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997. Was with Carolina for 18 years as scout, director of scouting and director of player personnel until he retired in 2019. Won Stanley Cup there in 2006. . . . Played four seasons at Northeastern University. . . . Management career included stints with the AJHL’s Red Deer Rustlers (GM/coach), and the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers (coach), Seattle Thunderbirds (GM/coach) and Swift Current Broncos (assistant GM). . . . Scouting career began in 1979 with NHL Central Scouting. Followed that with five seasons (1980-85) with the Quebec Nordiques, two as the OHL’s director of scouting and four with Hockey Canada, winning five gold medals, including three straight with the national junior team.
