Ron Ferguson

(July 2, 1955 —)

Born in Lamont, Alta., he lived most of his life in Red Deer before retiring to Olds. . . .His NHL scouting career began as a part-timer with the Quebec Nordiques (1985-86). Went on to scout part-time with the Washington Capitals (1986-89) and Calgary Flames (1991-94). . . . Joined the Carolina Hurricanes part-time in 2005, moving into a full-time spot when he retired from a 30-year (1981-2011) teaching career with Red Deer Public Schools. He then worked full-time for Carolina until 2018. . . . Attended Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Sask. (1972-76), and afterwards did a stint as a dorm supervisor and hockey/track and field coach . . . Also worked as area scout with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors (1990-91) and Calgary Hitmen (1994-96). . . . Worked several years in the late-‘90s as colour man and post-game analyst on Red Deer Rebels’ broadcasts.
