Paul Charles

(July 8, 1957 —)

Born in Baden-Soellingen, Germany, where his father, an RCAF pilot, was based. After living on various Canadian bases, he played most of his minor hockey in Winnipeg. . . . Played three seasons in MJHL, before family relocated to Edmonton — it was his father’s last posting — where he briefly attended the U of Alberta. . . . While working as firefighter in St. Albert, Alta., began scouting for WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors after they relocated from Winnipeg in 1984. Also scouted for WHL’s Swift Current Broncos (1986-94) and was director of scouting with Calgary Hitmen (1994-99). . . . The NHL came calling in 1999 and he worked with Minnesota Wild from then into 2018. . . . Was part of three WHL champions (1989, 1993 and 1999) and the 1989 Memorial Cup-winning Broncos. . . . Spent 13 years as a firefighter in St. Albert before going scouting on a full-time basis.
