Jim Bzdel

Born in Elfros, Sask., he moved to Regina from Wynyard in 1954. . . . Worked 24 years for City of Regina before retiring in 1993. . . . A 36-year scouting career started in 1966 with IHL’s Des Moines Oak Leafs. After four years there, he spent four years with WHA’s Los Angeles Sharks, followed by Michigan Stags (2), Baltimore Blades (1) and Cincinnati Stingers (2). . . . Then the NHL came calling and he worked for Hartford Whalers (3), Washington Capitals (2), Toronto Maple Leafs (9), San Jose Sharks (2), Calgary Flames (3), St. Louis Blues (2) and, finally, Toronto (2). . . . A baseball guy, too, he was the New York Mets’ Western Canadian head scout in the early 1970s. . . . Was goalie in minor hockey until taking a puck to the head. He moved to defence and later played eight seasons with senior Regina Caps.
