WCPHS Foundation Announces the “Two Glens’ Honourarium”
TWO GLENS’ HONOURARIUM
The Western Canada Professional Hockey Scouts Foundation has introduced a new award to its
world. The Two Glens’ Honourarium will honour the memories of the late Glen Cochrane and Glen
Dirk, two respected members of the scouting community who passed away from cancer in early
2024.
Both were known and respected for their competitive spirit in sports and scouting, and were
celebrated for their camaraderie, humour and dedication. The Two Glens’ Honourarium will be
presented annually to a deserving NHL scout, and will allow that scout to provide financial support
to an individual or institution of his or her choosing who is in need of assistance with educational,
medical and/or mental health challenges. This initiative reflects the values and goodwill embodied
by Cochrane and Dirk.
“This award is what the Foundation is all about,” Erin Ginnell, the Foundation president, said,
“paying respect to people from the scouting community to go along with giving back with charitable
donations in the recipients’ names. “Both Glens had huge personalities and had a big impact on
my life . . . they were great guys and true men of the scouting trade.”
The Foundation’s board of directors agreed unanimously that this award should become a
permanent part of its legacy. As its Vision Statement notes: “Our non-profit foundation is
appreciative and indebted to the game of hockey and all that it has provided to our life’s
experiences. Because of that we feel a strong obligation and commitment to give back to charities,
communities and individuals who could benefit from our support and financial assistance.”
The Two Glens’ Honourarium joins the Ace Award on the Foundation’s awards shelf. The Ace
Award honours the memory of Garnet (Ace) Bailey, a long-time scout who was on board the
second plane that was flown into the World Trade Center in New York City on 9/11. The Ace
Award goes to a member of the scouting fraternity, or someone involved with the scouting
community for contributions above and beyond what may have been expected. The first recipients
were Dennis Beyak and Gregg Drinnan, both of whom have been heavily involved in helping the
Foundation get to where it is today.
The Foundation’s awards will be presented during its annual Wall of Honour induction dinner. At
present, the Foundation is working on selecting a date for its 2025 dinner. As well, the
Foundation’s selection committee is putting together its list of 2025 Wall of Honour inductees.
Those names are expected to be announced in January.
